“少年诺贝尔奖”雷杰纳隆科学奖决赛 华裔学生 VS 印度裔学生

1月23日全美公共科学协会和雷杰纳隆奖宣布2018年最终进入雷杰纳隆科学天才奖决赛的40名入围者名单,根据获奖名单公布的姓氏,其中包括12名华裔应届高中毕业生和13名印度裔应届高中毕业生。获选学生基于其递交的科研论文,及其成为科学界未来领导者的综合潜力。入围者将参加3月份在首都华盛顿举行的最终决赛。

今年共有12名华生入围最后一轮,其中来自马里兰州的华裔学生最多,均来自蒙哥马利布莱尔高中(Montgomery Blair HS),包括研究细胞内溶素(Phage Endolysins)以抵御细菌感染的高萨拉(Sarah Gao,音译,下同),研究素数模数(Prime Moduli)的吴大卫(David Wu),以及通过编程算法最小化交叉路口延误的张艾莉丝(Alice Zhang)。 南加圣地亚哥峡华裔学生Maggie Chen 论文有关“用于针对抗生素耐药细菌抗毒力疗法的细胞膜包衣纳米仪器。

  本次40名决赛入围者再次分别获得25000美元奖金,并将于3月份参加在首都华盛顿举行的最终决赛。决赛入围者将与顶尖科学家评委面对面,展示讲解其研究项目。最后,评选出前10位获奖者,最高大奖25万美元。

  素有小诺贝尔奖之称的高中高年级雷杰纳隆科学天才奖,是美国历史最悠久,最著名的应届高中毕业生科学竞赛,其前身为1942年创办的“西屋科学奖”(Westing House),1998年改称为英特尔科学奖(Intel Science Talent Search),由英特尔公司接替西屋公司成为为其提供赞助的第二家公司;去年开始,雷杰纳隆公司成为该高中生科学天才奖唯一第三家赞助公司。

 据悉,目前至少有8位诺贝尔奖获得者在其学生时代曾经获得过这一奖项,故有小诺贝尔奖之称。
